Are you Sorry ?

These days, in my day to day conversation with various people, I find the word “sorry” to be used left, right and center.  I feel, it’s one of the most abused words in the language and is losing it’s sanctity.

The various scenarios where it tends to get ‘mis’used..

I can’t attend class today – “sorry “….It’s really become business like. No repentance, no actual hint of apology..

You step on someone’s toe and just blurt out, “sorry” without actually meaning it..

Late for a meeting, (Simple…so sorry, got stuck in traffic….)

Hey I forgot to get your book, sorry..

Even the kids these days are so gregarious with this ‘sweet’ little word…when I question them about..not calling after reaching from place A to Place B, or for not doing their homework or exceeding the time for watching TV, the answer is one word – “SORRY”..I forgot. Sorry, by mistake…It’s just a statement..

Sorry has become the new style of greeting… for anything and everything, there’s sorry ready in the tray…

If only,

Sorry could mean a sincere apology, without any strings of excuses attached to it.

Sorry could mean a message to your loved ones to say, I do make mistakes, I’m not perfect. Please accept my apology.

A sorry could mean a way to express ones feelings of repentance.

If only, sorry could be a heartfelt word to convey the true intention for the travesty of actions !

Chaos to peace..

Chaos to Peace for wordpress..

A whirlwind of thoughts,

Coming in different sizes, colors and hues,

Inflicting our heart and mind,

Confusion, disorder, chaos prevailing..

Leaving us in disturbed, stressful, and angry states of mind.

The onus is on us,

To dive deep within ourselves,

To tap into that untouched love, that peace and calm..

To put an order to the chaotic thoughts.

Those days…

There are days in life,

When things just happen,

Thoughts just flow freely,

We feel satisfied and content,

Full of life, happiness and energy..

                                  *

There are days, when we don’t need phones, gadgets or televisions,

The days when we can just hum and sing along for hours,

The days when we can cook a meal with all love flowing through..

                                 *

The days when we practice compassion and gratitude,

The days we have oodles of patience to deal with the tantrums of our little children,

The days when we are able to put up with the whims and fancies of people around us,

The days when nothing can possibly trigger our anger  and irritation.

                                   *

Those are the days, We meet our true self,

That’s the way we all are created,

That’s the way we are all meant to be.

                                   *

So, lets adopt a simple smile,

Imbibe a little peace and calm,

Lets have a little laugh till our stomach hurts,

And lets keep the stress away for a while.

                                   *

Lets all become a little aware,

And  put it into practice..

For a day might arrive,

We can just go with the flow of life,

Give ourselves another chance,

To dance and sway to life’s trance.

Who is responsible?

Do we leave our money purse, filled with cash on the dining table, and expect the domestic helps not to take any of it? No, we take care to keep it safe and locked in our wardrobes/lockers, so that there’s no temptation for them to pick it up.

Do we keep our expensive jewelry in the open and expect the maids, helpers, service providers to have immense solidarity and not pick up the jewelry kept in the open? No, we take care to keep our valuables safe in bank lockers.

We take good care of our financial and other valuable assets to keep it away from the prying eyes of probable thieves.

But what about our physical assets? I hear a lot of girls crying fowl, when asked to dress sensibly and as per the occasion. Isn’t it our responsibility to take care of our personal physical property. Why not dress decently with maturity and grace? Why give a chance to those mentally sick monsters out there a temptation to satisfy their lust? Agreed, girls do want to dress stylishly, but that could also be achieved by dressing decently. I have seen girls of all sizes, wearing clothes which do not fit/suit their figure and look obscenely vulgar. Is it just about the current trend, just to ape the west or is it mere peer pressure? Dressing sensibly could be just one of the steps taken to protect our dignity.

I am in NO way saying or trying to restrict our little girls. I expect the boys to be mentally and emotionally well educated by parents, teachers and well wishers to respect girls/ladies, their self respect and modesty and make the society a better and safe place for our little girls. All I am trying to bring out here is that, just like we take care of our valuables, we need to  protect and take care of our girls  and not leave them vulnerable to the prying hawks and eagles flying around.

A question to the ladies, more so the Indian ladies out here. Haven’t we have all grown up dressing decently in a culturally safe and secure environment, with not too many distractions, unnecessary exposures (we didn’t have a choice back then, as the maximum we got was a television with some local programs), limited access to information. We probably didn’t have a phone at home, neither was there a mobile phone. We girls, went to classes, schools, colleges, traveled cities, without carrying a cell phone; and grew up to be sensible, confident women of today. Don’t we have ladies from our country today who can represent our country, stand tall and compete with their western counterparts?

Why is it then, today we hear innumerable cases of molestation, rapes and other atrocities on women and young girls? Where are we failing?

These questions keep bothering me and I have just put down the thoughts that visited me. Please feel free to express your opinions and thoughts.
